Who is Margret Peter Obi?
Margaret Peter Obi nee Brownson Usen is a philanthropist, businesswoman, women’s rights activist and former first lady of Anambra state Nigeria.
She was born on September 9th and hails from Calabar in Cross River State. She was born Margaret Brownson Usen. She is married to Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of Labor Party in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election.
Margaret tied the knot with her husband Peter Obi in 1992 and the couple is blessed with two grown kids: Gabriella Nwamaka Frances Obi and Gregory Peter Oseloka Obi. Both kids are reportedly based outside the country.
Margaret is the brain behind her husband’s National Gender Affirmative Action which encouraged at least fifty per cent slots to women under Obi’s administration.
Margaret is known for her humility despite her intelligence as displayed while working intensively & inconspicuously to garner support for her husband’s administration as state governor.
During her time as state first lady, She facilitated the distribution of equipment grants to women cooperatives that are engaged in dry season faming.
These grants promoted their access to all sectors of production and enhancing their capacity to support their families.
She also facilitated the establishment of Family Courts in the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (MWAPD) to deal with issues of child abuse and violation of women’s rights, widows rights and inheritance.
